GODTECH Inc. (operator of Elcycle), selected for the 14th Youth Entrepreneurship Academy

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Oh Young-joo, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry) announced on the 16th (Thursday) that it held an entrance and launching ceremony for the Youth Entrepreneurship Academy at its main school (Ansan, Gyeonggi).

The Youth Entrepreneurship Academy is a project that accelerates the growth of young entrepreneurs by providing not only financial support but also a comprehensive package of technical education and expert mentoring to help solve various difficulties they may face.

The launching ceremony was held under the theme of “Youth Dreams to the World.” Key events included the presentation of a gratitude plaque to senior alumni companies and a hologram performance wishing for the successful entrepreneurship of young entrepreneurs.

The gratitude plaque was awarded to Opennol Co., Ltd. on behalf of 25 graduate companies that established the ‘Youth Startup Fund’ to invest in junior young entrepreneurs (October 23).

Subsequently, a meeting was conducted under the leadership of the Startup Policy Director of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups to collect on-site difficulties and suggestions from young entrepreneurs. A participating young entrepreneur commented, “I was encouraged to support by seeing the growth cases of senior companies from the Youth Entrepreneurship Academy, and I hope that various networking opportunities with these senior companies will continue to be created in the future.”

Additionally, various side events were arranged for the young entrepreneurs attending the launching ceremony. Consultation booths were set up to facilitate exchanges with global accelerators and top 10 domestic venture investors, and there were also expert lectures by senior companies.

The Youth Entrepreneurship Academy was first established in 2011 at the Ansan Training Center of the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency and has since continuously expanded, currently operating 18 locations nationwide.

Over the past 13 years (2011–2013), it has discovered and nurtured a total of 7,638 young entrepreneurs, resulting in the creation of unicorn companies (2 companies, Toss and Zigbang).

Minister Oh Young-joo stated, “The Youth Entrepreneurship Academy is Korea's representative policy for youth entrepreneurship that has nurtured over 8,000 young entrepreneurial companies over the past decade, and recently, graduate companies from the Youth Entrepreneurship Academy have closely collaborated with global corporations and private institutions, investing in various fields such as technology and marketing to foster the growth of young entrepreneurs.”

“This indicates that a youth entrepreneurship ecosystem is being formed around the Youth Entrepreneurship Academy, and the government will not only directly support young entrepreneurs but will also focus on playing a connecting role that can fully utilize the capabilities of ecosystem members,” he added.

He also urged the attending young entrepreneurs to “commit themselves to do their best on the ground with a sense of mission and pride as the leading players of the Korean economy who can enhance the growth vitality of our economy and create good jobs.”
